Three FVA basketball players sign national letters of intent

APPLETON/HORTONVILLE (WLUK) -- Three Fox Valley Association girls basketball players signed national letters of intent on Thursday to play college basketball.

Appleton North's duo of Sydney Levy and Kari Brekke and Hortonville's Shay Frederick secured their college destinations.

Levy, the FOX 11 girls player of the year last year after leading North to an undefeated season and the Division 1 state title, signed with Milwaukee.

"I committed my sophomore year because I was ready," Levy said. "I got so close with the coaching staff I just knew it was the right place for me and I would be happy there so my decision was pretty easy."

Brekke signed with New Hampshire.

"Obviously taking a step forward in my basketball career is something I have always wanted to do since I was five years old," Brekke said "Counting down the days it will be far but it will be exciting."

Frederick, who led her team to the Division 2 state tournament last season, signed with Valparaiso.

"It's really special," Frederick said. "Valpo and their coaches are offering me, like I said, a great opportunity to play and I was on my official visit last weekend and I couldn't be more excited. I'm really excited about their team, the direction they're headed, so I just can't wait."
